Hundreds of whales die in New Zealand's third largest mass stranding

416 pilot whales stranded in Farewell Spit, New Zealand this week, discovered by the Department of Conservation (DOC). By the time DOC reached the poor whales, between 250 and 300 had tragically died. Now the department is putting out a call for volunteers to come and help them try to save the remaining whales.
